Almost everyone has unwanted hair somewhere on their body. Unfortunately traditional removal routines can be tedious, painful and expensive over time. Shaving may last a day, waxing a couple of weeks but none of them last forever and therein lies the beauty of laser hair removal.

FAQ On Laser Hair Removal

Am I a viable candidate for laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal can be applied to all areas of the body and on all types of skin (even tanned or dark skin).

How does it work?

To eliminate hair, the laser emits gentle pulses of energy that pass through the skin to the hair follicle. This energy is then absorbed into the hair follicle to destroy it so that hair can never grow there again.

Does it hurt?

The treatment causes only minimal discomfort. Patients often say it feels similar to the snap of a rubber band; with the top of line technology “Cynosure Elite and Smartcool” this minor discomfort is hardly felt and it is almost pain free. Slight redness or localized swelling can occasionally occur, but this usually subsides within the first 24 hours after treatment.

How many treatments are required?

While only one treatment session is enough to completely treat sun/age spots or veins; multiple treatments are required to get rid of all unwanted hair. Typically, a person with light skin may require 4-6 treatments, and those with dark or tanned skin may require 6-8 treatments.

Once a hair is permanently destroyed by laser, that particular hair may never come back, but different laser settings are needed for coarse hair versus fine hair. Also, in any given area of the body, 10%-30% of the hair there may be in a telogen (resting) phase at any given time. Laser hair removal requires multiple treatment sessions to burn newly formed hairs which were not affected by prior treatments.
